Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage;
do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

God encouraged Joshua greatly after Moses died. Joshua was now in charge of the great people of Israel and was set to take them over into the Promised Land. He had to vanquish the enemy in that land as well as make decisions of how to divide the land among the Israelites. He had an enormous task ahead of him. So God spoke directly to Joshua and told him that as He had been with Moses, He would also be with him. God told Joshua to have "courage!"

Today, we, like Joshua have been given an enormous assignment - to walk holy as God is holy! To stand victoriously against the enemy of our soul so that we too can enter into our promised land - heavenly glory with Christ! That's a big job in the midst of everything we face in our lives. Like Joshua, who recognized he could not do it alone, we too must realize that by ourselves we will fail. In our own strength, we are no match for satan and his wicked spirit kingdom.

But God said be of "good courage!" In fact He commanded it! That means you don't choose to be courageous or not - you simply obey God and stand up! Why? Because God is with you!! And when God is with us, we are no longer the minority - we are the MAJORITY! If God be for you, who can be against you! We stand courageous simply because it's not by our might nor by our power, but it's by God's Spirit- says the Lord!

When you think of the word "courage" , most times the understanding is someone without fear! But it means so much more than that! The word used in this text means: to be alert: physically or mentally; to be steadfastly minded; to be established; to fortify, harden, increase, prevail, strengthen yourself, make strong (to be "obstinate", speed). In other words, the Lord told Joshua "because I told you that I'LL be with you, because I commanded you, then fortify yourself in the RESOLVE that no weapon formed against you shall proposer! Don't allow your mind or heart to be changed or moved from this understanding!! Because the Lord is on your side, whom shall you fear!! As believers we don't stand because we're fearless, we stand because our God is FEARSOME! If God be for you, who can be against you!! Be grounded and rooted in knowing WHO you serve and WHO has given you the VICTORY - each and every day, every step of the way!

So when you feel discouraged, when you feel afraid, when those moments of doubt and dismay come upon you, remember WHO is with you, WHO is protecting you, WHO is fighting your battle! As a soldier in the army of the Lord, remember your command: "Be strong and of good courage!"

May God richly bless you today.
