SUBMIT, RESIST, WIN

"SUBMIT, RESIST, WIN"

James 4:7 (NIV)

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Many times the enemy will attack a believer by using stealth measures to defeat our spiritual walk. It's not always the obvious, external tactics that trip us up but it's those besetting "internal" sins" that lie quietly within us that when triggered, come forth like a spring board! And in many cases, it is our MOUTH that becomes the "instrument of defeat."

The devil is our "adversary" and that means he doesn't haphazardly attack us, but he "studies" us and observes our weaknesses. He quietly and patiently identifies the triggers in our lives, the "pull switches" that when released, will open the floodgates of unaddressed and repressed issues of hurt, resentment, fear, disappointment, anger and even loneliness that we've stored in our emotional closets. He will also use the carnal habits we allow to remain active in our lives; those particular things we hide and hold on to that keep the sinful lusts and desires alive and active within us. Then after we've given him all the ammunition he needs, he then picks the perfect time to press that "right button" to open the door to all that you've held reserved. He'll use a  nagging personality, or the injustices and misdeeds of people, a sudden traumatic moment or even an elongated season of loneliness, even a honking horn in a traffic jam that's aggravating your "last nerve!" The triggers that satan has used - that have WORKED BEFORE, he will use again!

But you can defeat the devil and your flesh by following a divine prescription for overcoming the enemy within and the enemy without:

James 4:7 (NIV)

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

As with all prescriptions designed for healing, in order to receive the FULL BENEFITS of the medicine, you must take it as prescribed. Notice the directions: (1) first we submit to God. This means that everything that you hold dear, those areas of your life that you feel make you "who you are", your aggression, your quick temper, your unbridled tongue, your ability to "tell it like it is" - submit it ALL to God. Let it go! Not only are we to humble ourselves before God, but we are too give Him all of those things that keep us defeated! Second (2) we are to resist the devil. Simply put - tell the devil "NO" - in the name of Jesus! The word "resist" means to stand against, to oppose, and to withstand. In other words, we don't simply say no to Satan, but we "position" our hearts and minds to OPPOSE his works, his lies and his schemes - in Jesus name! It means we disapprove of his works and don't minimize who and what he is - a liar, a deceiver, a murderer, a slanderer, and accuser of the saints! It's not enough to just say no, but we work to bring down his schemes and plans by presenting the gospel of Jesus wherever he tries to promote his plans. We put the gospel where our mouth is! Not only should we oppose satan, but we must withstand him! That means we put on our full warfare gear - the whole armor of God, so we can remain "undamaged" after his attacks. It's not enough to say no, but to be able to give God glory with our lives when we come through the storms of the enemy. When we follow this prescription of submission to God and resisting the devil, we will experience the (3) third phase of our healing - DELIVERANCE! Remember when Jesus resisted the devil in the wilderness, by the word of God, the Bible says that the devil "departed from from Him until an opportune time." Satan cannot come against the word of God, the faith in God, nor the anointing from God brought forth by a true believer! He will flee! But, he will always look for another time to attack again!

Therefore, stay ready!  How? By always staying humble before God; giving up those besetting sins and weights that so easily entangle you; by keeping a heart surrendered to His will; by allowing your mind to stay transformed by His word; and by never minimizing the tactics of our adversary! Stick with the prescription:

SUBMIT, RESIST, WIN!

God richly bless you.
