"FOLLOW THE LEADER"
Well Praise the Lord! Learn to Follow the LEADER this Week.
Meditate on this scripture today:
"Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”
There is an expression that has been widely used for as long as I can remember "Don't Reinvent the Wheel." In its basest form, it simply means "follow the steps of those that have already done what you're trying to do." In other words, there is no need to "redo" or "start from scratch" trying to figure out what to do when someone has already successfully done it. Simply "follow their lead."
I remember so many times, tapping myself in the head and saying "wow, I wasted so much time, when I could have simply done it the way my Dad did it!" I'm sure most of us have had a "V8" moment ("I could have had a V8!"). The "should have, could have and would have" times in our lives, simply because we didn't follow instructions; we did not follow the leader, someone who had gone before us and paved the way, blazed the trail, set the course, so we wouldn't have to.
In order to minimize our "V8" moments, there are a few things we must first recognize and accept. FIRST, you must have the spirit of HUMILITY. In order to follow another person's direction, we have to stop thinking that we know a better way to do it! Show me a person that never learns, and I'll show a person that never LISTENS! Successful people are good listeners. They recognize and "admit" that they don't know everything and are "willing" to follow the instructions of others in order to learn. Remember, the opposite of humility is PRIDE and it's always present just before you mess up! SECOND, never "deviate" from the arranged plan. Always FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS! Even if something sounds unusual or non-sensible, don't go off course. Rather than trying to make sense of the instructions, look at the ONE who gave them and put your TRUST there! THIRD, go in the AUTHORITY of the leader, the one who sent you! When you try to "take the credit" for something you did not originate or orchestrate, you lose the power of authorship! That's when you put your name in the place of the one who sent you not realizing that their name has the authority to open doors and make ways - and your name does not! You become discreditable. Be quick to give honor where it's rightly due. If someone compliments your work and you know that you're only following the instructions of your leader, then "big up" your leader and let others know who they are. You will gain three things: (1) your leader will be honored; (2) you will receive recognition for honoring your leader; and (3) you'll develop "character." That's when you begin to see yourself not as a "wanna be" but as a "will be". You gain self respect! FOURTH and final look at the benefits of "following the leader" is that we learn to TRUST and DEPEND on their advice. When the disciples of Jesus did "exactly" what He told them to do, the RESULTS were "exactly" what He said they would be. As we listen more and question less, we will finally come to what is the most valuable of all lessons: we gain WISDOM and get UNDERSTANDING! That's when we come to know the reason "why" we had to go a certain way or do it that particular way.
"Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord."
When you follow the LEADER - Jesus, He will always guide you to success - for He knows the way that you should take and when you "listen" (to heed, obey; to wait patiently) to Him, you'll come through as pure gold! (Job 23:10).
So, make up your mind NOW, to FOLLOW THE LEADER!
Be blessed this week!
